Hip Hop – Lies = Da Kreek

As rap music continues to become oversaturated with gangster clichés, party rap child prodigies, and self-proclaimed “kings,” a group has arisen that refuses to conform to the stereotypes of the rap genre. Hailing from Youngstown, Ohio, Da Kreek is an alternative hip-hop group that is blurring the lines of the hip-hop genre. Drawing from a variety of genres, such as jazz, blues, soul, and funk, they are successfully crafting a unique and innovative new sound.

Da Kreek will be released their full length CD titled STILL ILL. The CD pays homage to the Quentin Tarantino film Kill Bill as it contains samples from the film’s original soundtrack. STILL ILL is a display of cocky, clever, and witty lyricism in combination with stylish and swaggering production. The new sound forged by these two masters of ceremonies is shaping the future for the genre.

Da Kreek is a hip-hop duo consisting of rappers and producers DTown and Mello Dee. Together, the duo has received various award nominations for their extensive work in the genre since their formation in 2006. These nominations included HHB Series Best Group (2008), Ohio Hip Hop Awards Best Group (2008), and Ohio Hip Hop Awards Best Live Performance (2009).

In 2009, Da Kreek released their groundbreaking single “Wings & Propellers.” The song has gotten rave reviews and is taking the internet by storm. The group plans to release a new full length project during the fall of 2009.
